PASSHE Media Relations Manager visits LHU

Media Relations Manager for The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, Kenn Marshall, visited LHU to meet with faculty, staff, and student media leaders, to discuss his goal of improving communication between The Office of the Chancellor, and the students of the 14 PASSHE schools.

“I think it’s important for the student body to know what the Chancellor is doing,” said Marshall.

Marshall encourages the student body to ask questions and stay involved in what is going on within PASSHE. He has proposed to create a Facebook page for PASSHE updates to become more interactive with students after his 14-school tour throughout Pa. comes to an end.

The PASSHE Board of Governors meets at least four times a year to establish educational, financial, and personnel policies.  The board approves new academic programs, sets tuition, and approves the annual PASSHE operating budget, which Gov. Corbett will propose in upcoming months.

Marshall said the increase in tuition still left a $35 million shortfall in PASSHE funding after the 18 percent budget cut. To get more funding for the state system, he suggests contacting legislators by either calling them or writing letters.

Marshall believes that student media leaders play an important role in keeping the student body informed on what is going on within the state system, and he wants to work closely with them to maintain an open network of communication.
