Events for campus and community during LHU Homecoming Oct. 21-23.
Fun, excitement for all ages.
Homecoming 2011 at Lock Haven University on October 21-23 will feature a full slate of events, providing “something for everyone” on campus and in the community.
The festivities get off to an early start on Thursday, October 20 at 7:00, with a book reading and signing by retired LHU professor Carolyn Perry. When Hurricane Katrina swept through New Orleans and the levees broke, Carolyn and her husband, Bob, also a retired LHU professor, were marooned in Memorial Hospital where Bob was a cancer patient. Carolyn’s book, “For Better, For Worse: Patient in the Maelstrom,” tells their story.
The official Homecoming events kick off on Friday, October 21 with a Student Art Exhibit and Reception followed by an Alumni Reunion Dinner. A Children’s Carnival is also being planned as well. Plans are also being made to reprise last year’s popular Golf Cart Parade.
Open to all alumni and the public, the 12th Annual Homecoming 5K Run/Walk will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 22. Race-day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and is $20 per person. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers, the top three walkers, the top three finishers in each age group, the fastest mile time and the fastest team. There also will be team awards for overall male team, female team and coed team. The first 100 entrants will receive a free t-shirt. All proceeds from the event will benefit the LHU Track & Field and Cross Country Programs.
Beginning at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Rogers Gymnasium will be the Children’s Carnival. Children will be entertained with arts and crafts; Mr. T, the balloon man; and inflatable activities such as a moon bounce and Super Twister. At 9:30 the Roll of Service Induction Ceremony will be held in the Durrwachter Alumni Conference Center, followed immediately by the Alumni Association Memorial Program. This year’s Roll of Service inductees are Mr. Charles Bromberg, Mr. Edward “Ted” Forbes, Miss Virginia Martin, Mrs. Helen Hummel and Dr. Robert Scherer.
Many athletic events will take place throughout the weekend on campus. Sporting events include Swimming, Softball, Football, Soccer, Lacrosse, Baseball and Field Hockey.
In addition, LHU will host the 2011 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships. The women’s race (6K) is set for Saturday, October 22 at 10:45 a.m.; the men’s race (8K) will follow at 11:30 a.m. Lock Haven last hosted the PSAC Championships in 2008.
