Junior Alex Monroe (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) took home the individual title, freshman Dylan Mountain (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) was fourth and the Lock Haven University men’s cross country team finished second overall as The Haven hosted the LHU River Run Invitational on Saturday.
The Lady Eagles finished sixth out of 12 teams and were placed by Laura Histand (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy), who took 13th overall.
It marked the second consecutive win for Monroe and the fifth of his career. He crossed the 8K course in 25:13.2, almost two seconds clear of Carnegie Mellon’s Josh Newby, who he out dueled down the finishing stretch.
The Bald Eagles got another solid effort from the rookie, Mountain, who was fourth overall with a time of 25:35.2.
Carnegie Mellon took home the team title on the men’s side after putting four guys in the top-seven (27 points). The Bald Eagles were second (46 points) and Slippery Rock (97 points) rounded out the top-three teams on the men’s side.
Slippery Rock (66 points) won the women’s race and was followed by the Penn State Club Team (87 points) and Mansfield (109 points).
Histand led the Lady Eagles after finishing 13th overall. She covered the 6K course in 23:18.5.
Jessica McDonald (Marietta, Pa./Donegal) was 15th overall with a time of 23:26.4.
Lock Haven returns to action on Friday at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh.
