Lock Haven (7-7) finished up a series of conference cross over matches with a win against visiting Mercyhurst 3-1 at Thomas Field House.
Experience showed for the home team with standout performances from Erin Walsh and Gao Xuan this past Saturday afternoon.
The libero, Walsh, tallied 30 digs over the course of the 4 sets.
Gao Xuan once again proved to be an offensive threat as she pitched in with 11 kills, 5 assists and 3 aces; she also proved to be defensively strong with 15 digs.
Lock Haven’s junior star Bailey Farthing recorded a notable 11 kills in the match against the Lakers.
Alexa Garrity was once again the supplier, racking up 34 assists in the match.
The visitors proved to be a sturdy opponent, managing to win the third set 23-25, the most closely contended set of the afternoon.
The day before the Mercyhurst showdown the team was in action with other cross over rivals Edinboro and Gannon.
The Lady Eagles swept Edinboro 3-0 but fell to Gannon’s Golden Knights in 4 sets.
The Haven’s Grace Novacek, senior, was good for 8 kills against Edinboro to help boost the home side.
Sophomore Cody Anderson put up 10 kills in the loss to Gannon.
Other Sophomores Bethany Burns and Kendra Fetzer were confident that the Mercyhurst match could have been handled in only 3 sets and remarked about how the squad is still eager to improve.
Lock Haven are now into the business end of the season with upcoming away PSAC fixtures against Cheyney and West Chester this upcoming weekend.
