The Lady Eagles thumped visitors East Stroudsburg on the volleyball court Tuesday evening, sporting pink uniforms to promote breast cancer awareness in the first of two “Dig Pink” games this month.
T-shirts were also sold during the win to help benefit the Side-Out Foundation for breast cancer awareness in front of a crowd who was in full support of the cause; many spectators were also dressed in pink for the occasion.
Coach Kreiger’s team rolled through ESU’s Warriors in only three sets for the team’s seventh sweep of the season.
The first two sets were close affairs with Lock Haven edging ESU 25-23 and 26-24.
However, the flood gates were opened in the third set as Lock Haven comfortably sealed the W 25-10.
Last week’s PSAC Women’s Volleyball Athlete of the Week, Gao Xuan had 10 kills, 5 blocks, and 12 digs in a strong performance.
Grace Novacek was on a hot streak, finding 10 kills from 17 attempts in the onslaught against the Warriors.
Leading the home side in blocks was Bailey Farthing with seven who also contributed with eight kills in a well-rounded outing.
The Haven’s setter Alexa Garrity, supplied the troops with 27 assists, turning into finisher on four occasions.
Garrity won the crowd’s affection and cheers with an audacious fake set that won a clever point for the Lady Eagles during the match’s final set; she also tallied two aces on the night.
Lock Haven’s libero, Erin Walsh, had 12 digs in the victory.
Sophomore, Kaleigh Hudak and junior, Alex Brehony each had four kills to their names.
Freshman, Jessica Brown put her stamp on the match with nine digs with solid defensive display for the homeside.
The Lady Eagles were without regulars Monica Brown, a senior, and sophomore Bethany Burns due to injury.
Lock Haven is set for a battle against Kutztown this Friday on the road in a PSAC East matchup before returning home the following day to host Virginia Union and Concord University at 11 A.M. and 3 P.M. respectively to celebrate homecoming weekend.
Don’t miss the team in action again on October 26 against West Chester at Thomas Field House for the second “Dig Pink” match.
