WBB loses to Mansfield

The Lock Haven University women’s basketball team dropped a close one to Mansfield on Saturday at Thomas Fieldhouse.

Brielle Kelly scored 21 points and added nine rebounds to lead Mansfield (3-19, 2-16 PSAC) to a 53-50 win over the Bald Eagles (7-14, 6-11 PSAC).

Mansfield went on a 12-0 run in the first half, going up 22-10, before Lock Haven went on a mini 6-0 run to end the first half with Mansfield leading 22-18.

Mansfield did not score a point in the final 5:40 of the first half.

Emily James capped of a Lock Haven 7-0 run with just over 10 minutes to go with Lock Haven leading 40-33.

However, Mansfield countered with an 8-0 run to go up 41-40 with 7:08 to go in the second half.

J.J. Hilliard hit a jumper with 3:27 to go to put Lock Haven up 48-46.  Hilliard led the Eagles with 13 points.  She was the only Lock Haven player to score in double figures.

Trailing by two, Emily Daugherty hit two free throws with 48 seconds left to tie the game at 50.

With 24 seconds to go in regulation, Kelly hit a jumper to put Mansfield up 52-50, and that’s all they would need as Mansfield squeaked out of Lock Haven with a 53-50 win.

Tianna Jackson scored 16 points for Mansfield, as Mansfield had two of the three scorers that scored in double figures in the entire game.

Lock Haven turned the ball over 19 times which led to 24 Mansfield points.

The game saw 12 ties and eight lead changes.

The Lock Haven women’s basketball team will host Kutztown at 5:30p.m. on Wednesday at Thomas Fieldhouse.
