Guns N’ Roses formed around the mid-eighties in Los Angeles. William ‘Axl’ Rose, the band’s lead singer, was the founder of the band. According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s website, “Appetite for Destruction”, released in 1987, was a ‘pivotal moment in rock history.’
This debut album was what brought back rock music’s edge because for a bit it had seemed to lose its rage and sense of danger. Guns N’ Roses truly was a group of misfits looking to attract someone’s attention and Axl Rose was at the forefront of the troublemakers. So why would you want to listen to a band like this? Guns N’ Roses’ songs are some of the best and most well-known songs in our musical library. It’s hard to go a day without hearing one of their hits on everyone’s top favorite rock stations. Rolling Stone magazine placed Slash at number 65 on their list of “The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” in 2011. Guitar World ranked his solo in “November Rain” at number 6 in their list of “The Top 100 Greatest Guitar Solos.” The list goes on from there.
Slash’s guitar talent alone is enough of a reason to listen and with achievements such as these attached to his name, how can you be disappointed?
A major part of any band’s career is their performances and Guns N’ Roses’ performances do not disappoint. Axl Rose’s famous rock whines sound amazing live and his live vocals are pretty good. He also only adds to the excitement when he gets into his songs, audience members can clearly see him getting lost in the music.
Not only is the singing decent but the way the musicians play their instruments is also pretty fantastic! The band’s enthusiasm as they play is a great addition because, let’s face it, you can’t have a good show without enthusiasm! Depending on how pumped the band gets they might fall on stage and really let loose on their instruments or they might jump into the crowd and get the fans all worked up as they crowd surf! It’s quite the show!
With so many great reasons to love a band as legendary and talented as Guns N’ Roses it’s hard to understand why you wouldn’t want to listen to them or watch their performances. Guns N’ Roses has left an undeniable mark on rock history and their legacy will influence countless future bands and musicians.
