Baseball splits series with East Stroudsburg

The Lock Haven University baseball team split their four game series with East Stroudsburg on Sunday and Monday.

At Foundation Field, East Stroudsburg took game one from Lock Haven, 2-1 on Sunday.

Scoreless through five and a half innings, Ryan Henritzy hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Tyson Petersheim, to give the Bald Eagles (8-14, 7-9 PSAC) a 1-0 lead.

The Lock Haven lead didn’t last long, as Jay Young singled home Matt Walewski to tie the game at one in the seventh.  A groundout gave East Stroudsburg a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh.

Tyler Eckman pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh for East Stroudsburg, picking up his ninth save of the season.

Jacob Belinda picked up the loss for Lock Haven, throwing 6.1 innings and giving up four hits and two runs.  Nick Hornbaker and Aaron Lidgett each threw 0.1 innings of relief in the seventh.

Lock Haven fought back in game two, pouring on an offensive onslaught and beating East Stroudsburg 15-2.

Stroudsburg hopped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Eagles struck back with two of their own in the bottom of the first on a two-run double by Austin Botts, scoring Henritzy and Ryan Koch.

Lock Haven scored four unearned runs in the bottom of the second, started off by an RBI single by Petersheim.  Koch followed with an RBI single scoring Petersheim, and then two batters later, Botts followed with his second two-run double of the game, making the score 6-1.

But the Bald Eagles weren’t done.  Petersheim hit a two-run triple in the bottom of the third, his second of the season, to make it 8-1.  Petersheim scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.

Ethan Moore hit a two-run double, Petersheim singled home another run and Aaron Cummings scored on a wild pitch, making it 13-2 after four.  Jamie Eshleman and Henritzy each drove in runs in the sixth, capping the scoring at 15-2.

Chad Speigle threw six innings for Lock Haven, picking up his second win of the season, as he struck out four while only giving up two runs.

At East Stroudsburg on Monday, Lock Haven took game three of the series, 4-0.

The Bald Eagles scored first in the top of the fifth inning, as Moore hit his third home run of the year, to put Lock Haven up 1-0.  Petersheim drove in another run in the series on a single, to make it 2-0 after four and a half.

Moore drove in his second run of the game on a sac-fly in the top of the sixth to make it 6-0.

Henritzy hit his sixth double of the season on the top of the seventh to cap off the scoring at 4-0.

Madison Neddo threw a complete-game, three hit shutout for Lock Haven, striking out three.

Lock Haven fell in game four of the series, 10-9.

Botts hit his fourth home run of the year in game four, a three-run blast that put Lock Haven up 5-2.  Lock Haven tacked on another run in the top of the third, but East Stroudsburg fought back to tie the game at six in the third.

Trailing 9-7 heading to the bottom of the seventh, East Stroudsburg strung together a three-run rally in the seventh, to win the game 10-9.

Lock Haven will travel to West Chester on Friday for a doubleheader beginning at 1p.m.
