When the Lock Haven University volleyball team defeated Shepherd 3-0 (25-14, 25-11 & 25-23), they capped a perfect 4-0 weekend at the inaugural Angelina Miele Memorial Tournament.
Over the four match span, the team only dropped one set. Dan Krieger’s team opened the tournament with a convincing 3-0 (25-21, 27-25 & 25-22) victory over Wayne State. Their second and final match on Friday was against Salem International who they defeated 3-0 (25-10, 25-16 & 25-17).
On Saturday, the Pioneers of Long Island University Post were the next team on LHU’s schedule. They were able to take the second set, but ultimately fell to the Bald Eagles 3-1 (25-23, 28-30, 25-15, 25-17). Kreiger saw four of his players reach double-digit kills in the win (Sarah Gomish, Megan Flick, Gabrielle Stala and Brittany Moyer).
Jessica Brown continued to play an important role in the victory as she registered 41 assists. On the season, the senior has 235 assists. She averages 9.49 assists per set.
The team returns to action this Saturday, Sept. 19 when they take on Chestnut Hill College in Rutherford, N.J. at 3 p.m. Later that same day they will play Felician College at 5 p.m.
Those two matchups kick off a stretch of six straight road games for Lock Haven. Their next home match is against Shippensburg to kick of PSAC play on Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.
