Dave Taynor is entering his second season as head coach of the Lock Haven football team, but this is his first full offseason and he is making his mark on the program.
The 2016 recruiting class features 40 student-athletes that will join the team in August.
One aspect of recruiting that is important for any head coach is getting homegrown to stay at home. Of the 40 recruits that signed on with the program, 38 are from Pennsylvania.
The offense will be adding 19 new faces and the defense will see 19 newcomers. The remaining three are listed at athletes.
Taynor and his staff had a large presence on social media to announce the commitment of the future Bald Eagles. The hashtag #G2GLHU, which stands for “Grind 2 Greatness,” was used and many current players took to Twitter to express their excitement. Redshirt junior linebacker Jacob Jones tweeted, “Congrats to all the guys who signed today. Can’t wait to have them join the program. #G2GLHU.”
An official ceremony was held in the evening to celebrate the 2016 class at the Durrwachter Alumni Center. This was the first time that a ceremony had been held to announce a recruiting class and roughly 80-90 were present, including coaches from other LHU programs like baseball head coach Jim Chester.
