The Lock Haven University baseball team (17-22 overall, 6-14 PSAC) definitely had some upset victories in mind, but it wasn’t enough as the team lost three out of four games to East Stroudsburg University (30-10 overall, 13-7 PSAC) last weekend. The ESU warriors are currently ranked No. 14 in the nation.

After splitting two games on the road (4-0 game one, 3-1 game two), both teams continued the series the next day at Foundation Fields in Lock Haven. East Stroudsburg took a 2-1 series lead with a 6-2 victory over the Bald Eagles. The Warriors scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to win the game.

It took longer than seven innings to decide the winner of game two as it went into extra innings. The Warriors got on the scoreboard first thanks to a double from shortstop Conner Crookham to center field.

After a 1-2-3 top of the third inning, Lock Haven tried to take the lead in the bottom of third. Jamie Eshleman started the inning with a base hit to right field. After two quick outs from Brady Chappell and Giovani Torres, LHU tried to get a rally going. Sam Kysor got a base hit to put runners on first and second base. Webb later got his second hit of the game with two outs to load the bases. Nick Stotler struck out to end the bottom of the third.

After another 1-2-3 inning, Lock Haven was finally able to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. LHU started the inning with back-to-back base hits from Moore and Brenize, who both advanced to second and third base on a sacrifice bunt from Petershiem. Eshleman tied the game with a base hit to left field but could not score after a groundout and a fly out to end the inning tied at 1-1.

LHU pinch-hitter Hunter Szaflarski reached to first base on a base hit up the middle, but Kysor struck out looking to end the seventh inning.

East Stroudsburg went to work in the top of the eighth after scoring three runs to sweep the Bald Eagles on the road.

The Lock Haven University baseball team returns to action tomorrow (April 22) at home to take on the Golden Rams of West Chester University (23-10 overall, 13-7 PSAC) in a double-header. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Lock Haven is three games behind in the standings to secure a playoff spot with only ten games left to be played.
