chickenHead coach Dave Taynor’s offense continued to round into form as the 2016 Crimson and White game marked the end of the spring season.

Taynor, who was hired on April 12th of last year, enters his first full offseason at the helm of the Bald Eagles. The offense took the spring game by a score of 78-40 over the defense.

Quarterback Caleb Walton, who is entering his redshirt senior season, went 27-32 (84 percent) for 453 yards with eight touchdowns against one interception.

While the defense allowed Walton and his receiving corps to have their way through the air, they were much more stout against the run. Twenty-seven rush attempts went for 78 yards (2.88 avg.). Malyk Harris made the most of his 14 attempts by racking up 70 yards and a touchdown.

“The defense did a great job in run defense,” said Taynor in an interview with Haven Athletics. “Carmelo Cruz and that first group of linebackers, they shut down the run game the majority of the game.”

daveShawn Seif was Walton’s top target on the day as he hauled in seven passes for 167 yards and three scores. When Walton wasn’t looking in Seif’s direction, there was a good chance that it ended up in the hands of a tight end.

The trio of Del’Vaughn Dennis, William Sensenderfer and Jeff Dincher combined for 13 receptions for 199 yards and three touchdowns.

“Overall, we did what we wanted to do in spring ball,” Taynor added to Haven Athletics. “We’re excited about the opportunity to train this summer.”

It is this offensive grouping that figures to lead the Bald Eagles into the 2016 season after a record-setting 2015 season.

The Walton-led offense registered 4,603 total yards, which was a single-season record. Taynor’s squad also put 277 points on the scoreboard, which is the second-most in school history. Walton will also head into the upcoming season second all-time in passing touchdowns and passing yards.

Coach Taynor’s team is set to report to camp on August 11th before their first practice on August 12th. The beginning of camp signifies a month until the regular season opener on the road against Clarion on the first of September.
