Let me start this article by saying that no matter who you voted for in this year’s election, you should be proud of taking the initiative to go out to your closest polling station and placing your ballot. We need an active electorate, so thank you for fulfilling your civic duty so that the government can fully reflect the views of the people. Some of you might have mixed opinions about our new POTUS, so I’m presenting to you a two-part playlist, one half for those whose candidate won the election (may you be humble in your victory) and the other half for the losing team (may you gracefully accept defeat.)

Here are 10 songs to listen to if you picked the winning candidate:

  1. “Celebration”, Kool & The Gang

After winning something as important as this, it’s okay to let loose and celebrate with friends and family.

  1. “Happy”, Pharrell Williams

So, your selected candidate is now the next President of the United States… this song might put into words how you’re currently feeling. Plus, the tune is catchy.

  1. “It’s Good to Be Alive”, Andy Grammer

It’s good to be alive in a world where your views are also reflected in the leader of our country.

  1. “Best Day of My Life”, American Authors

I’m sure I’m not having as swell a day as the new POTUS, but it could be a pretty close second with this song on my playlist.

  1. “On Top of the World”, Imagine Dragons

Let’s take a moment to realize that this election is FINALLY over and we don’t have to listen to our opposing party spout nonsense anymore. I think that’d put anyone on top of the world.

  1. “We Are the Champions”, Queen

Yeah… you should feel very accomplished right now. Your vote made a positive difference in this election.

  1. “Good Feeling”, Flo Rida

That “good feeling” you’ve probably got right now is due to the anticipation of all the great things POTUS is going to do for you.

  1. “All Star”, Smash Mouth

Okay, this song is dorky and silly, but there’s nothing like a Smash Mouth hit to make you feel fun and confident.

  1. “Another One Bites the Dust”, Queen

It’s okay to rub your win in others’ faces, just so long as it’s all fun and games. Consensual banter is the only right kind of banter.

  1. “U Can’t Touch This”, MC Hammer

POTUS is probably feeling untouchable, out of reach and invincible right now, so you should, too!

And here are 10 songs to listen to if you picked the losing candidate:

  1. “I Will Survive”, Gloria Gaynor

It’s important for you to remember that it’s not the end of the world (although it may feel like it.)

  1. “Titanium”, David Guetta

This song is all about getting back up and keeping a brave face. You’ll be needing this musical armor for when the new POTUS ruins your life.

  1. “Survivor”, Destiny’s Child

You are a survivor, and just like Gloria Gaynor, Destiny’s Child is here to remind you that life continues.

  1. “Let It Be”, The Beatles

Sometimes you just need to let things go, step back for a moment, and calm down.

  1. “Don’t Stop Believing”, Journey

Don’t stop believing that the world you want to exist might exist one day. That’s just not today…

  1. “Move Along”, All American Rejects

An anthem about moving forward and not looking back. If you continue to let history repeat itself, then nothing is going to change. It’s time to progress.

  1. “Stronger”, Kelly Clarkson

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, stand a little taller. Remember these lyrics when you’re watching POTUS make decisions you don’t agree with. You’ll get through this, and become stronger in the process.

  1. “Let It Go”, Elsa (Frozen)

This one is a joke… sort of. It gives a good message though! Don’t let this election bother you. Brush off the hatred you feel and let go of those unhealthy emotions.

  1. “Keep Your Head Up”, Andy Grammer

Keep your head up high and remember you’re a strong individual. You’ll be fine for the next four years.

  1. “Shake It Off”, Taylor Swift

Get rid of nasty thoughts, shake it off and let loose. The election is over, and no matter what the results, you have a little less stress in your life now.
