Lacrosse dismantles Bloomsburg
The Lock Haven Lacrosse team traveled down Interstate 80 on Tuesday, April 18 to face PSAC opponent Bloomsburg University. The Bald Eagles needing a win to continue their push for PSAC postseason play and they didn’t disappoint.
The game started with Bloomsburg jumping out with an early 2-0 lead, scoring the first two goals of the contest in the first five minutes of play.
Lock Haven responded, scoring the next five goals and never looking back. Emily Brunie got things started, scoring her first of two goals on the day. Rachel Engler then scored the next three goals and Shannon Bissnette tallied one of her three on the day. LHU now led 5-2, all five of the goals coming in a two-minute span for Lock Haven.
The Bald Eagles tacked on two more goals before halftime, leading 7-5 at half.
Lock Haven opened the game up in the second half. Lock Haven dismantled the Bloomsburg defense and scored 13 second half goals. While LHU’s offense was firing on all cylinders, the defense also had a strong showing.
Goalkeeper Hannah Houde recorded 11 saves. LHU also had thirteen ground balls on the day, with Katie McDonough, Madison Eberly, Karli Gilbert, and Emily Gerhart recording two a peice. Ashley Gochenaur, Braxtin Reddinger, Brunie, Hayley Kilian, and Sam Dotterer each also added one ground ball.
Lock Haven dominated the draw as well. The team recorded 22 draw controls to Bloom’s 9. Alex O’Herrick had 11 of the 22 and Gochenaur added another 5.
The Bald Eagles outscored Bloom by eight goals in the second half, defeating Bloomsburg 20-10.
The three-headed monster of Engler, Bissnette, and Kilian led the way for the Haven, combining for 11 goals, 13 assists, and 24 total points on the day.
Kilian had a career day, tallying seven assists and also adding one goal. Kilian and Bissnette are tied for the team lead in points with 57 on the year. Kilian is third in the PSAC in assists with 40 and Bissnette is fourth, with 36 assists.
Engler is leading the PSAC in goals per game with 3.50 per contest and is leading in total goals with 49 on the season.
Lock Haven is now 8-6 overall and 5-4 in conference play. The Bald Eagles have three games remaining in their season and all are in PSAC play. The Haven is looking to keep the momentum rolling and look to close out the season with a strong finish to then compete in the PSAC Tournament.
Lock Haven will be traveling to Erie this weekend on Saturday, April 22 to face Gannon University under the lights at 7PM.
Then the Bald Eagles return home for their last two games of the season, against rivals Millersville and Mercyhurst Universities. Lock Haven hosts Millersville University on Wednesday, April 26 at 4pm. Then later in the week on Saturday, April 29, Lock Haven will host Mercyhurst at 1pm for a Senior Day matinee to wrap up their regular season.
