The Lock Haven University softball team is currently tied for third with Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in the Central Division of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

Lock Haven and IUP share a 7-5 record in the division, while IUP has an overall record of 17-14 and LHU’s is 17-17. On the season, Lock Haven and IUP have split the four games they played with each defending their home turf.

The strength of coach Kelly Shannon’s, who is in her eighth season at Lock Haven, team is their pitching. In conference play, LHU has a team ERA of 1.74, which is third in the conference behind Bloomsburg (1.04) and Kutztown (1.26).

The duo of sophomore Bekah Slattery and senior Rachel Mouillesseaux have started in all 12 conference games and have tossed five shutouts, which is good enough for second most in the conference.

In the six games by Slattery, she has amassed a 5-1 record with a 1.66 ERA in 43.1 innings. The left-hander has struck out 34 against nine walks and has held batters to a .193 average.

The remaining half-dozen that were started by Mouillesseaux produced a 2-4 record. She maintains a 2.92 ERA over 37 innings with 33 strikeouts, 10 walks and a batting average against of .239.

As for the Bald Eagle offense, power is their calling card. They’re tied for first in the conference with eight home runs. They’re also efficient on the basepaths as they’ve been successful on 12 of their 13 stolen base attempts.

Much like Slattery and Mouillesseaux on the pitching side, the offense is spearheaded by seniors McKenna Garlock and Michelle Holweger.

Garlock leads the team in home runs (2), batting average (.342), on-base percentage (.395) and RBI (10). Holweger has batted .317 with two home runs and nine RBI.

Their next eight games are at Lawrence Field which is their longest homestand of the season. The Mountaineers of Mansfield visit LHU on April 21 and Pittsburgh at Johnstown comes to play the following day.

After one day off, Shannon and her team with play Bloomfield before finishing their home slate against Clarion on April 28.

The regular season finale will take place on April 29 at Bloomsburg.
