Lock Haven’s home slate opened with a bang on March 26. The Bald Eagles hosted Millersville University for doubleheader that didn’t disappoint. The Haven walked off in the first game and won the second 5-2.
In game one of the doubleheader, Lock Haven and Millersville were locked in a defensive battle, with the teams combining for only eight hits and only leaving three runners on base. LHU’s Rachel Mouillesseaux pitched a gem, only giving up one run, five hits, striking out five and inducing seven groundouts. Mouillesseaux pitched a complete game picking up her fifth win of the season and was named PSAC Pitcher of The Week.
In the top of the fifth, Millersville broke the scoreless tie scoring a run on a single. Millersville led 1-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh with Lock Haven down to their last three outs. First up in the bottom of the seventh was Faith Ceely, who singled to the pitcher. After a sacrifice bunt moved Ceely to second, McKenna Garlock came up to the plate with the tying run in scoring position. Garlock who is batting .382 on the season, leading the team in RBI’s with 15, hits (21,) home runs (4,) and slugging percentage (.709) took one deep for a two-run blast to propel the Haven to a walk-off, thrilling victory.
In game two of the doubleheader, Lock Haven carried the momentum from game one, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning off a Becca Caputo double, scoring Mouillesseaux and Ceely.
The Bald Eagles increased their lead in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs off a Moriah Lindsey inside-the-park homerun. LHU controlled the game from this point on, only giving up two runs and six hits. Bekah Slattery picked up the win for her fourth of the season pitching a complete game while striking out six.
The Bald Eagles play next at Pittsburgh at Johnstown on Saturday, April 1.
